Great Runes
Great Runes arrive with the Raid Boss system — a planned post-launch feature, fully designed but not yet built. The flat Rune amounts in the effects below are subject to final balance tuning before release.
Great Runes are the rarest reward in Tarnished & Rising — earned exclusively by killing the Monthly Raid Boss. Each one provides a powerful short-lived bonus that activates the moment you equip it. There are 14 Great Runes, one for each Raid Boss-eligible boss.
They are not permanent. A Great Rune stays active for the rest of today and all of tomorrow — it expires at the 2am reset after tomorrow. And they are lost on death. If you die while one is active, it's gone.
How Great Runes Work
- Earned from Monthly Raid Boss kills only — no other source. Each raid kill grants one charge of that boss's rune
- Equip from the Collections modal on the Legacy tab
- Activates immediately on equip
- Lasts the rest of today plus all of tomorrow — expires at the 2am reset after tomorrow
- Only one Great Rune active at a time
- Lost on death — not recovered on respawn
- An unequipped charge can be held indefinitely — equip when you're ready
Don't equip a Great Rune on a day when your Vigor is low. If you die while one is active, it disappears permanently. Save them for days when you're healthy and going to put in serious work.

Which Bosses Are Eligible
Not all 28 weekly bosses are eligible as Raid Bosses — only 14 of them. The 14 ineligible bosses will never appear as a Raid Boss and therefore have no Great Rune. The eligible 14 are the ones listed in the table above.
Raid Boss difficulty (Standard / Veteran / Legendary) unlocks by class tier:

Notes & Tips
- The Rune of the Unkindled (Hollow King) is arguably the most valuable for bad stretches — it lets a Forsaken day earn at the Blazing rate. If you know a tough week is coming, this is your insurance policy.
- The Rune of the Blazing (Ashen God) is the highest ceiling Great Rune: +2.0 Ember in a single day plus 2x all Rune earnings. Stack this with a Blazing Grace day, a boss kill, and full task completion for an extraordinary day.
- The Rune of the Prosperous (Sunken Hollow) doubles your current Ember multiplier — at the 2.4x cap, this effectively gives you 4.8x Rune earnings for the day. Everything you do earns double what it normally would.
- Great Runes can be held indefinitely. There's no pressure to use one immediately after earning it — wait for the right day.
