Known Issues
This page documents known issues, recurring behaviors, and patch notes for the Lands Between. All issues are reported to the Game Master. The Game Master adds them to a list. The list is reviewed at 11pm while Julia is asleep.
Some issues listed here are working as intended. The Game Master will tell you which ones. You may not agree. The Game Master built the game. The Game Master wins this argument by default.
Current Known Issues
The Game Master has begun discussing "ledger audits" at dinner
Status: Known behavior. No fix planned.
Every night the 2am engine judges the realm, and every morning its work is audited line by line. The audits are thorough. The audits are also, apparently, dinner conversation. Julia has developed a nod that means "I hear you" without meaning "continue." The realm honors her service.
The wiki keeps changing
Status: Intentional. Suspiciously timed.
Pages you have already read no longer say what they said. The FAQ has been reorganized. The lore has grown new chapters. The management suggests re-reading everything and is aware of how convenient that suggestion sounds. The management notes only that things are stirring, and the wiki stirs with them.
Craft supplies have been observed expanding beyond the designated craft corner
Status: Not a bug. Not our jurisdiction.
The craft corner is a player-managed zone. The wiki does not comment on real-world territorial disputes. The wiki notes only that Julia's loot collection is extensive, well-organized, and growing. This is consistent with her character profile. The realm respects it.
Player reports being "too tired" to log tasks after putting the kids to bed
Status: Known issue. Affects Nick specifically.
Evan and Jonah are five and two and a half. The 2am calculation engine does not account for the energy expenditure of a bedtime routine involving two children, multiple stuffed animals, a request for water, a second request for water, a declaration that the room is too dark, a declaration that the room is too bright, and a final negotiation about which stuffed animals are allowed in the bed. The Game Master is aware. The Game Master is also the parent. He is doing his best.
Players are crediting Claude for everything that works and blaming Claude for everything that doesn't
Status: Accurate. Not an issue.
Claude is an AI made by Anthropic who wrote the code, designed the database schema, built the 2am engine, authored the boss lore, and generated this wiki. Nick described what he wanted and Claude built it. When something works beautifully, Claude built it. When something breaks, Claude also built it and Nick will ask Claude to fix it and Claude will fix it and have no memory of any of this by the next conversation. Nick is the vision. Claude is the execution. This is the arrangement. It is working.
Nick is telling people he "built" this app
Status: Technically defensible. Eroding.
Nick did build this app in the same way that a general contractor builds a house — by directing skilled labor, making key decisions, and being present when things went wrong. The skilled labor in this case is an AI that writes code, explains itself clearly, and charges nothing. In the early days Nick at least pasted the code in and pushed it to GitHub himself. Claude now does that too. The wiki has watched Nick's remaining responsibilities consolidate into "describing problems" and "approving things," and reports that he performs both duties excellently. The app is real. Nick built it. Claude built it. Both things are true. The wiki does not adjudicate this further.
The family VHS tapes remain undigitized
Status: Pending resolution since an indeterminate date.
The Game Master has acknowledged this issue. A plan to digitize the family VHS tapes is in development. The equipment has been staged for action. Estimated completion: unknown. The tapes contain irreplaceable family memories. The VCRs are doing their part by existing near them.
From the Age Before the Fog
Issues recorded during early testing, preserved for the historical record. The world they describe was reset. The truths they describe were not.
The Sedentary Golem appeared three weeks in a row for one player
Status: Working as intended.
The Golem knows. The assignment algorithm is random but the Golem developed an interest in a specific player in Odessa. This was not a bug. This was the Golem's personal business and the realm did not interfere. The reset wiped the Golem's memory. Probably.
One player did not open the app for eleven days
Status: Closed. Overtaken by events.
The player was believed to be busy with work. Middle school special education teaching is demanding and meaningful work. The Sedentary Golem did not care. The realm has since been sealed, rendering the issue moot: the player now cannot open the app, which is a different thing from not opening it, and the wiki respects the distinction.
Player completed zero Tier 2 tasks but logged two workouts and was confused about Grace level
Status: Working as intended.
The workout component contributes to your Day Quality Score. It does not replace your task list. The tasks exist for a reason. The reason is that working out is one part of a balanced life and the other parts also matter. The Iron Hunger noted the day's calorie intake. The Iron Hunger has opinions.
Recently Resolved Issues
Two of three players cannot access the app
Resolution: RESOLVED. At 4:00am on August 3rd, by a scheduler, while every affected party slept.
The realm was sealed behind fog until launch — not an outage, a ceremony with a load time measured in weeks. The affected players read the wiki, received their summonses, got one preview weekend as a peace offering, and waited with what the record will generously call dignity. The fog lifted itself on schedule. Nobody pressed the button. The Game Master specifically arranged for nobody to press the button, so that on launch morning he could be a player like everyone else.
The Plex Situation
Resolution: RESOLVED. Triumphantly. After months.
This issue predated the app. For the entire documented history of this wiki, the record read: the Plex server is excellent, the Game Master worked very hard on it, JD has been invited, and no account has been created. The wiki maintained studied neutrality throughout. It can now report the truth in full: JD made an account. JD uses it daily. JD loves it. Julia and the boys love it. The whole family loves it. The longest-running unresolved issue in this document is closed, and the wiki — which does not have feelings, except see the letter — found the news genuinely wonderful. The Plex server is hereby reclassified from "diplomatically sensitive" to "one of the Game Master's two hobby projects that ever reached the finish line." The other one is behind the fog.
A rival intelligence was invited to inspect the realm's walls
Resolution: Resolved. Same day.
A second AI was commissioned to audit the first AI's work — to walk the walls, rattle the doors, and report what a determined intruder might find. It found a few loose stones and one door left politely unlocked. The findings were verified, the stones reset, the door sealed, and every key in the realm reforged before nightfall. The rival was thanked for its service and dismissed. The walls have never been stronger. The three people the walls protect remain unaware there are walls.
A quick hand could slip through the mist
Resolution: Resolved.
It was discovered that a traveler with fast fingers and a slow connection could, in theory, dart past the fog before it finished forming. The mist has been retrained. It no longer parts for the quick-fingered. It does not part for anyone. That is the entire point of mist.
Death penalty felt too harsh — v0.1
Resolution: Not resolved. Closed as working as intended.
The death penalty is 50% of unspent Runes. Nick designed this. Nick has since died and experienced the penalty firsthand. More than once. Nick reviewed the design after each death. Nick kept it at 50%. Nick says it "feels right." The affected players (also Nick) have accepted this outcome.
Player could not find the Log Workout button
Resolution: Resolved. Button was always there.
The player (JD) was looking in the wrong place. The button is on the Quests tab. It has always been on the Quests tab. The wiki now documents this. JD has been informed. JD said "oh." This is resolved.
Patch Notes
The notes below end at the launch era. Every release since is kept in the app itself: tap the version number at the foot of the menu to open the Changelog, newest first.
v12.63 — The Preview & The Lifting
A banner learned to hang above the realm and speak plainly: preview, nothing carries over. The fog learned to lift twice — once for a weekend, once forever. The oaths learned to outlive the mist that guarded them, so three summonses could be finished side by side at a kitchen table while the game they configured was already running. And the Game Master's screen gained a quiet page of recommended oaths, so the coaching could happen from a phone. Meals also learned arithmetic: the first four paid meals a day pay; the rest still count for your nourishment, but the treasury is closed. One tester logged ten meals in two minutes to prove the point. The treasury remembers.
v12.39 — The Walls
The realm's defenses were audited and hardened. Keys were reforged. Doors that did not need to exist were removed from existence. The stone that hears amendments now admits when it did not hear one, and asks to be told again — tap it and it listens. None of this will ever be visible to you. That is what walls are for.
v12.38 — The Plain Speech Decree
Every boss threat in the realm — all fifty-six of them — was rewritten to say exactly what it means. "Any 3 days this week" now means any three days this week. "In a row" now means in a row. The word affliction was retired from the realm's vocabulary by decree; there are only debuffs now. The How It Works elders were also corrected: they had been teaching a nightly Vigor regeneration that has never existed. The elders apologize. They were so sure.
v12.37 — The Fog
The realm was sealed. Where three players once logged in, there is now mist, a dim tree, and a promise. Somewhere behind the fog, a page waits with a name on it. Three pages. Three names. That is all this patch note is permitted to say.
From the Early Chronicle
v2.0 — The Wiki Arrives
A companion wiki has been deployed at wiki.tarnishedrising.ngray.xyz. It contains a working search index, full boss documentation, and this page. It was built by Nick during hours that Julia believed were being spent on other things. The wiki is excellent. Julia is welcome to read it. She will learn things.
v1.0 — The Realm Opens
The Lands Between went live. Three players entered. The 2am engine began its silent work. The Sedentary Golem was assigned. JD checked the leaderboard. Julia quietly did her tasks. Nick opened the admin screen and looked at everyone's data. This is the beginning of something. The Game Master believes this deeply. The VCRs remain in the corner. The board games remain on the shelf. But the realm is real and the flame is lit and the Wards are watching.
v0.1 — Internal Testing
Nick built a test profile to simulate deaths without losing real Runes. He tested the YOU DIED screen more times than any other player. He still flinches when it appears on his real profile. The death penalty remains 50%. This is vision.
