Companions
A companion is a character who travels with a player and provides passive bonuses to Rune earnings and loot drops. Companions have two independent systems: a permanent level that grows through Rune investment, and a daily happiness meter that decays if you ignore their tasks. Keep them happy to keep the bonuses active.
The Companions
| Player | Companion | Levels Through |
|---|---|---|
| Nick | The Wards (Evan & Jonah) | Dad tasks — quality time, activities, showing up |
| Julia | Forest Elves | Habit & family tasks — finalizing before launch |
Companion Level
Companion level is permanent — it never decreases. Each level is bought with Runes by tapping LEVEL UP on the Grace tab. Companions have 10 levels with escalating costs:
| Level | Cost (Runes) | Rune Bonus | Loot Drop Bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 25,000 | +2% all Rune earnings | — |
| 2 | 40,000 | +4% all Rune earnings | — |
| 3 | 65,000 | +6% all Rune earnings | +5% loot drop rates |
| 4 | 100,000 | +8% all Rune earnings | +5% loot drop rates |
| 5 | 150,000 | +10% all Rune earnings | +8% loot drop rates |
| 6 | 215,000 | +12% all Rune earnings | +8% loot drop rates |
| 7 | 300,000 | +14% all Rune earnings | +10% loot drop rates |
| 8 | 410,000 | +16% all Rune earnings | +10% loot drop rates |
| 9 | 545,000 | +18% all Rune earnings | +15% loot drop rates |
| 10 | 730,000 | +20% all Rune earnings | +20% loot drop rates |
A maxed companion at full happiness gives +20% all Rune earnings and +20% loot drop rates every day. Total cost to reach Level 10: 2,580,000 Runes.
Companion Happiness
Happiness is a daily meter from 0–100. It starts full and decays every night if you don't complete companion tasks. Each companion has two tasks — completing both nets you even for the day. Each companion task also earns 750 Runes.
| Action | Happiness Change |
|---|---|
| Each companion task completed | +20 |
| 2am daily decay (automatic) | −20 |
Complete both tasks and happiness holds steady. Complete one and you break even. Complete neither and you drop 20 points. Recovery from zero takes 5 days of doing both tasks consistently.
How Happiness Affects Perks
| Happiness | Perk Status |
|---|---|
| Above 50% | All perks active at full strength |
| 25–50% | Perks at half effect |
| Below 25% | All perks suspended |
| Zero | Perks suspended + one-time activity feed penalty event |
A Level 8 companion with zero happiness has all perks fully suspended. The investment is there — 16% Rune bonus and 10% loot bonus — but it pays nothing until happiness recovers. Don't let a high-level companion fall to zero.
Companion Tasks
Companion tasks are shown and completable in two places: the lightweight Companion Card on the Quests tab, and the full Companion Card on the Grace tab. Complete them from either location — it doesn't matter which. Completing a companion task awards 750 Runes and +20 happiness immediately.
Evan and Jonah are five and two and a half years old. They are the only companion in the game that can wake you up at 6am, request donuts, stage a full negotiation about which stuffed animals are allowed in the bed, and still somehow make you want to do all their tasks. The Wards are the most powerful companion in the game. This is not reflected in the stats. It is simply true.
Notes & Tips
- Companion tasks are worth doing every day even at low companion levels. 750 Runes per task plus the happiness maintenance is always worth the effort.
- The Blessing's Boon consumable (Uncommon loot) restores +40 happiness immediately — useful if you've let happiness slip and want to recover fast.
- Companion level is a long-term investment. Don't expect to hit Level 10 quickly — the total cost is 2.58 million Runes, designed to be a ~6–9 month target.
- Sites of Grace milestone small rewards include a companion mood boost option (+20 happiness) — one of the six rotating rewards.
- The LEVEL UP button is greyed out when you can't afford the next level. The exact Runes needed to the next level are shown on the Grace tab companion card.
