Class Ladder
Your class is your rank in the Lands Between — determined by your level and displayed on your character card, your profile, and the activity feed. There are 10 classes across 50 levels. The full journey from Hollow to Elden God is designed to take exactly one year of consistent play.
Classes affect more than your title. They determine which boss tiers can be assigned to you, how much weapon damage your attacks deal, and how fast you can realistically kill bosses. A Crucible Knight hits harder than a Wanderer — not because of stats, but because of the class multiplier applied to every point of weapon damage they deal.
The Full Class Ladder
| Class | Levels | Cost Per Level | Optimal Completion | Weapon Multiplier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hollow | 1–5 | 30,000 Runes | Day 10 | 1.0x |
| Tarnished | 6–10 | 65,000 Runes | Day 26 | 1.3x |
| Wanderer | 11–15 | 122,000 Runes | Day 49 | 1.5x |
| Warrior | 16–20 | 165,000 Runes | Day 74 | 1.8x |
| Champion | 21–25 | 228,000 Runes | Day 104 | 2.2x |
| Crucible Knight | 26–30 | 322,000 Runes | Day 139 | 2.7x |
| Erdtree Knight | 31–35 | 480,000 Runes | Day 179 | 3.3x |
| Exalted | 36–40 | 630,000–666,000 Runes | Day 224 | 4.0x |
| Elden Lord | 41–45 | 875,000–925,000 Runes | Day 279 | 4.8x |
| Elden God | 46–50 | 1,350,000–1,510,000 Runes | Day 365 | 5.5x |
Optimal completion assumes consistent strong play — Burning Grace or better most days, regular boss kills, and steady Rune spending. Real timelines will vary. The 365-day target is the design goal, not a guarantee.
What Class Affects
Weapon Damage Multiplier
Every class tier applies a multiplier to all weapon damage you deal to bosses. This stacks on top of your weapon's rarity, your Strength stat investment, and any active Grease. A Legendary weapon at Hollow (1.0x) hits far less than the same weapon at Crucible Knight (2.7x). As you climb the class ladder, your damage output scales dramatically — making boss kills faster and more reliable even without upgrading your gear.
Boss Tier Pool
Your class determines which boss tiers can appear in your weekly assignment. The pool shifts as you advance — Standard bosses dominate early, Legendary bosses dominate late. Three hard gates apply regardless of the weighting system:
| Boss Tier | Unlock |
|---|---|
| Standard | Always available (Level 1+) |
| Veteran | Wanderer — Level 11+ |
| Legendary | Champion — Level 21+ |
See How Bosses Work for the full tier weighting table by class.
Raid Boss Access
Monthly Raid Bosses unlock at Tarnished tier (Level 6+). Veteran and Legendary Raid Bosses have higher unlock requirements — Champion (Level 21+) for Veteran Raids, and Erdtree Knight (Level 31+) for Legendary Raids.
Class Promotions
Every time you cross into a new class tier — Level 6, 11, 16, 21, and so on — a class promotion event fires. This is one of the biggest moments in the game. When it happens:
- A full-screen promotion ceremony plays — the old class settles into shadow, the new one blooms gold
- A special one-time title is unlocked for that class tier (The Risen at Tarnished, up through The Complete at Level 50)
- A guaranteed loot drop fires — Uncommon minimum, scaling to Rare at higher tiers, no chance gate
- You receive a bonus Skill Point on top of the normal level-up reward
- New class flavor text appears on your character card
Class promotions are the milestones the whole realm notices. They're worth celebrating — and worth pushing for on a week when you're close.
Leveling Up
Levels are purchased with Runes by tapping LEVEL UP on the Grace tab when you can afford the next level. The cost shown is always the cost to reach the next level — not the current one. The Rune bar fills as you earn and shows your progress toward the next level cost.
Every level up gives:
- +2 max Vigor — automatic, no Skill Points needed
- +1 Skill Point to spend on any of the six stats
- Progress toward the next class promotion
See Rune Economy for full earning rates and Stats & Skill Points for how to spend those points.
Notes & Tips
- The early class tiers move quickly. Hollow to Tarnished (Level 1–10) costs only 30,000–65,000 Runes per level — reachable within the first few weeks. Don't hoard waiting for a comfortable balance; spend and level up.
- The weapon multiplier jump from Warrior (1.8x) to Champion (2.2x) at Level 21 is significant — and it's also when Legendary bosses enter the pool for the first time. You'll hit harder and face harder opponents simultaneously.
- The Elden God tier (Level 46–50) costs 1.35–1.51 million Runes per level. At the 2.4x Ember multiplier cap and strong daily earnings, this is still achievable — but it requires sustained months of Blazing play to accumulate. This is the endgame.
- Deaths don't affect your class or level. No matter how many times you die, your class stays where it is. The Rune and Ember penalties sting, but your place on the ladder is permanent.
- Reaching Level 50 unlocks New Game Plus — the Cycle of Demise. See New Game Plus for what carries through.
